Spring 2010 Performing Arts and Wellness Classes: Yoga, Chair Yoga, Ballroom Dancing, Line Dancing, and ZUMBA

YOGA with Charlene Ballard.
The class is open to beginners and experienced yoga practitioners. Yoga offers multiple health benefits, including; lower levels of stress hormone cortisol, an increase in flexibility and strength, improved balance, improved psychological health, improved immune function, and many more.
Classes are held on Mondays, 5:30 - 7:00 PM, in the Ariel Banquet Room, for the following sessions:
May 3, 10, 17 (3-weeks, $30 per person)

ZUMBA - Instructor Colleen McCambridge from Meigs Wellness Center
Join the latest Fitness Trend!
Aerobics class with high-energy, latin-based music. Professionally trained and certified instructors will adjust the intensity of the class to meet participants needs and ability levels. Classes meet Wednesdays at 5:30. Class fee is $5 per person, per class. Space is limited. For Zumba-specific questions, contact the Meigs Wellness Center at 740-992-2161.

LINE DANCING with Elaine Wheeler
Line dancing class is open to beginner and experienced dancers - teen to adult. Benefits of line dancing and all types of dancing are many for both younger and older adults including: weight loss; control of high blood pressure, diabetes, and cholesterol; stress management; strengthening bones and muscles without hurting joints; increasing stamina and flexibility; and building confidence, social skills, and teamwork. Classes are taught on Tuesdays.
Beginner Line Dancing: Tuesdays, 6:00 PM - 7:00 PM Students will begin with basic line dance steps/dances with more individual attention to step sequences and build to intermediate steps/dances to today's popular music as well as the classics for such dances as the Electric Slide, Tush Push, Reggae Cowboy, and many more. Once the student becomes familiar with the step patterns and terminology, the student may then add and/or move up to the intermediate class. Begins January 19.
Intermediate Line Dancing: Tuesdays, 7:00 PM - 8:00 PM This class is for students who have knowledge and experience of the basic steps. This class is taught with less individual attention to step patterns and at a quicker pace. It is not recommended for beginner dancers. Begins January 19.
Fee schedule: $5.00 per class or $8.00 for both classes

Ballroom Dancing with Dr Joseph Li
Dr. Li's highly popular ballroom dancing series returns to the Ariel. Please register early to ensure a spot. Dr. Li accepts registrations from couples and individuals. Beginning and intermediate dancers are welcomed. Comfortable, light clothing and soft-soled leather or suede shoes are suggested.

Joe has been teaching ballroom dance classes for more than five years and enjoys providing students with not only a new skill, but an opportunity to explore their creativity. Joe has trained for many years in the Columbus and Cincinnati area. His passion for the art and sport of ballroom dancing is what led him to be introduced to this wonderful world by his good friend and ballroom dance teacher, Gig Powell, 14 years ago. Currently, Joe is a Pediatrician at Holzer Clinic and is a diplomat of the American Board of Pediatrics.

In the event of inclement weather, Ariel classes will be cancelled if Gallipolis City Schools are cancelled due to weather.
